Before anything else, I’d like to introduce myself: I’m Lorraine Nepomuceno, a web designer and rabid Apple fan-girl. When I’m not blogging about web design or creating dream configurations of Mac Pros at the Apple store, I run a little online bakeshop, spend time with my husband, and try, mostly in vain, to keep our three dogs off the furniture. Kevin’s recent post on Defending the Mac got me thinking. As he pointed out, with nearly everyone owning an iPod or iPhone these days, one no longer feels the need for the type of Apple evangelism we practiced in the past. But although articles like this announce that Windows is steadily losing market share, the same article states that:
…at the pace of the last 24 months, Windows would retain a majority share for another 27 years.
Yes, you read right: 27 years.
No, Virginia- Apple evangelism must not die. Here, some quick tips to help you along the way:
- Keep in mind that the more family and friends you get to switch, the less PCs you’ll be asked to fix. Talk about motivation!
- Remember that as an Apple evangelist, you’ll always have beauty in your corner. Unboxing never looked so good.
- Take refuge in the fact that no PC will ever have iPhoto, iTunes, GarageBand, iMovie or iDVD right out of the box.
- Trying to switch a teenage girl? Show her Photobooth. Preferably when her friends are around.
- If all else fails, cite Bootcamp.

For me it’s not so much a particular app, but more the integration. As well as explaining that Mac OSX has had 0 viruses. The only vulnerability is the user. Don’t download weird codec ‘players’. Also, I love how the OS gets out of your way, and the added bonus of system wide tricks. Like the ones which helped me spell this post correctly, ;).
Apple is not the end-all-be-all solution. Some solutions require different tools.

here are the complaints I hear from people about Macs…too expensive…bull…I just recently gave my 9 year old iBook G4 and my 10 year old iMac G4 to my sister…both running great with Leopard…how many PC’s will you have to buy in that time period? 4-6 is the real answer
I say do you have kids? Do they haphazardly click on links? duh the answer is YES…how would you like the peace of mind of knowing they wont destroy your computer with virus’ and malware? and not to mention the no cost of virus protection…
APPLECARE…duh…I mean the list can go on and on…yes the initial investment is a little steep at times but those prices are coming down more and more…and as the credit card commercials say…
Piece of mind….PRICELESS
