The Case for an Expensive Case

Table of Contents

I love cases. I’m not sure exactly why, but I think it has something to do with my ridiculously anal organizational tendencies. I prefer the feeling that everything has its place, and it’s protected along the way. Since the last case didn’t work out, I’ve been hunting for that messenger bag of my dreams, and I’m having a hard time finding what I’m looking for.

I’ve heard of Vaja before, but mostly because of their high prices. Most of their iPhone cases start at around $80, and there’s even a $280 model with a silver applique along the side. I can’t imagine spending $300 on a $300 phone, but then again, I don’t also have a lot of disposable income to spend on that kind of stuff. Besides, my incase Slider is working out just fine, and $35 is a bit more approachable than $80.

Vaja does have a line of iPad cases now, and no matter how much I try to stay away from them, I just keep finding myself on the site, looking for cool new products. So many, in fact, that some of them are sold out. Pictured above is the Messenger Bag for the iPad, which has multiple pockets for all sorts of cool accessories. It looks a touch purse-like for me, but I keep coming back to it. After all, it’s made for the iPad, so I know it’s going to fit the device perfectly, and the craftsmanship makes it sturdy enough to last a while. But $280? That’s over half the price of a 16GB iPad, and I just don’t know if I can pull that trigger. Sure, it’s customizable to whatever colors I want, but that’s still a lot of money, right?

Who out there has purchased anything from Vaja? If you have, let me know in the comments what you think about their quality. Maybe I’ll find out myself sometime soon.

  1. Oh stop worrying about fancy cases and just go ahead and use your iPad like it’s meant to! You’re not carrying the iPad like a jewellery. It’s a tool! Use it!

  2. I have had a couple of raja cases for iPods. They are wonderful. The problem is that they really only fit the specific model. $80 is too much spend for something that you will be upgrading in 2 years. That said, the iPad should remain around the same size for a few years. But $280 is too much. $110 for Tom Bihn seems OK but comparison.
