Software Spotlight: Picturesque

picturesque.jpgIf you’re a blogger who needs to post a lot of images on your site, or just someone who likes to play around with your photos to make them flashier, then you’re probably going to want to take a look at Picturesque from Acqualia.

Picturesque is an amazing little program, and the winner of the 2007 Apple Design Award for Best Student Project. After you spend a few minutes with it, it’s easy to see why.

The program, in a nutshell, allows you to quickly and easily spice up your images with reflections, borders, curved edges, and more. Plus you can resize images directly in the program.

Unlike Photoshop, GIMP or just about any other Image editor you can think of, there is ZERO learning curve to Picturesque. You drag an image into the program, check a few boxes, drag a few sliders around and BOOM. Done.

Below are a few images that I put together while watching a certain NBC sitcom this morning (a very special “No Prize” award to the first person to guesses which one it is…). I spent a total of 30 seconds or less on each of these.

I highly recommend this program. You won’t find a easier way to add these kinds of effects to your photos anywhere. I hope in future versions of the software that they ad features like cropping, brightness and contrast, and maybe even color overlays, but right now – as is, Picturesque is worth more than the $19.50 Acqualia charges for it.

You can download a 30 Day trial of Picturesque by clicking here.

  1. You’re kidding, right? That whole article was sarcasm? Cos if there’s anything that the web needs less of, it’s rounded images with reflections.
