Portable Mousing: Alupad

I found this one when I discovered the UpStand earlier, and it got my attention. At first, the concept seems a bit weird. After further consideration however, it made sense.

I was working a job last week, which involved working on a brand-new 27-inch iMac. It was three days old, so of course, it came with a Magic Mouse. They needed lots of space to get everyone in one area, so we all sat around this conference table with a glass top. This caused havoc with the Magic Mouse, and no one could get it to work. No one had a mousepad handy, so they used a piece of paper held onto the surface by a heavy paperweight. It was stupid.

On first blush, this is just a really expensive mousepad. It’s called the Alupad, and at $49.99, it ain’t cheap. Yet it succeeds where other mousepads have issues. It’s slim enough to fit into a laptop bag, and about the same size as well. It’s durable enough to handle lots of road trips as well. Yet it also seems like a bit of needless spending, particularly when other mice don’t suffer the same problem. Is it worth it? Depends on your cashflow, frankly. For me, it seems a bit much. But then again, maybe I’m just a bit cheap.

  1. Why not just by a Magic Trackpad for $69… seems far more durable and transportable!
And for those with Windows units… well… just by a Mac!
