OS X Quick Tip: Delete Those Files…Forever

If you’re looking to delete something and you want to make sure that no one will ever be able to find it again, there is a really simple and easy way to do that in MOST cases.

This is another one of those super-easy Quick tips that you may already know…but some of you out there don’t…and others may have forgotten it…so here we go…

With the Finder open, go up to the menu bar and select FINDER>Secure Empty Trash. This writes over the files in your Trash Can multiple times with random data, making it impossible to recover in most cases.

Remember when doing this, though…it takes significantly longer to do than just emptying the trash. Don’t do this with a couple Gigs worth of Trash…unless you really want to take the time to have it deleted forever.
