Nvidia officially announced the Mac edition of its powerful Fermi Quadro 4000 today which will allow Mac Pro users to upgrade their existing video card to something that packs a serious punch.

The Quadro shares the same specs as its PC counterpart. 256 CUDA cores power the 4000 which is complimented by a 256-bit memory interface and 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

The card, which is only compatible with the Mac Pro, carries a suggested retail price of $1,199. Nvidia is aiming this card at professionals using pro level Apps such as Adobe’s Premier Pro which leverages the GPU to offload some processing duties. Other Apps that render 3D graphics such as Octane Render and Bunkspeed Shot can tap in to the Quadro’s GPU when more horse power is needed.

The Quadro will be available later this month from Apple and other retailers.
