Net4Mac – Social Network Application only for Macs – huh?

Net4Mac is a new social network only for Mac Users. To make sure none of those pesky PC users can be involved, to access the network you have to download an application.

That’s kind of where I stop being interested.

I don’t really want to download an app to visit a website. It doesn’t help that there are numerous grammatical and spelling errors on their description page (“internet connexion required”, “Search members using different of criteria”). When you go to the contact section you are only given a series of emails and an iChat name. No phone number, no address…a little further inspection on the site and you can see that its actually the team behind App4Mac, but I’d recommend to the site creators that they make this information a little easier to get ahold of. It’s unsettling when you can’t find the proper information about a company, and I think people are much more likely to just dismiss this application if they have any concerns about its legitimacy, rather than take the time to look it up. At first, I dismissed this is as some kind of spammy-looking app, because it wasn’t clear who made it.

Besides that fact, however, I don’t really know if this is something that I’m interested in it at all. I mean, I already have Twitter, and there’s Facebook, MySpace — the list goes on forever.

Do you see this being something you would use?

  1. I’ll wait for a while to see if Net4Mac develops a following before I’ll try it.
I’m on Twitter and Pownce, so another social network seems a little excessive.

  2. I actually find it interesting and I think I’ll give it a try, why not? Macs are becoming more and more popular, in a mainstream sort of way and I think this might make the whole mac experience a little more community-like again, as it used to be. It is a matter of personal opinion whether it is a good thing or a bad thing.

  3. @elminno

I agree. It is a matter of opinion, and if you’re going to give it a try, I’d love to know what you think of it after a week or two.

  4. I joined the community, 123 active members at the moment, different groups. It partners with App4Touch so we’ll probably gonna see it on the iPhone and iPod Touch as well….interesting

  5. Another interesting note…when you enter the chatroom and click on the name of one of the people online, it opens their profile in a Safari window, instead of the application itself…weird…what is the point of having the application when it still needs a web browser to perform certain tasks?

  6. Curiosity got the best of me. I joined. About 3200 members now. It’s interesting. I’ll play with it for a while and see how it goes.
