Leopard Officially Delayed until October

Table of Contents

Apple just issued the following statement:

iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned. We can’t wait until customers get their hands (and fingers) on it and experience what a revolutionary and magical product it is. However, iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price — we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS(R) X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned. While Leopard’s features will be complete by then, we cannot deliver the quality release that we and our customers expect from us. We now plan to show our developers a near final version of Leopard at the conference, give them a beta copy to take home so they can do their final testing, and ship Leopard in October. We think it will be well worth the wait. Life often presents tradeoffs, and in this case we’re sure we’ve made the right ones.

This comes as a HUGE disappointment to me. So far this year, Apple has done very little other than talk about products that are coming soon…now it looks like we can expect more of the same for the time being.

The iPhone better be a helluva device to make up for this…

  1. This is a real shame. I was very much looking forward to Leopard. On one hand this hurts me and Apple. On the other hand I applaud their honesty, somewhat better than what comes out of Redmond.

  2. I can’t f’n believe this. Seriously this is rediculous how long have we been waiting for this? It seems like forever. Looks like you will be eating that BOOT. Yes something to look forward to.

  3. Well this reallying fuckin sucks for me. Now, not only do I not get an iPhone, I don’t get Leopard, and likely won’t even get a new iMac model in June. Man, aside from our government, it sucks being in Canada sometimes. No iPhone, and now no Leopard. They better show us all the new features at WWDC, or I might have kidnap Jobs.

  4. Mike, (can i call you Mike?) I guess you will be eating that boot then. Or maybe not, because we are gonna see Leopard, just not the gold master. Damn! You’re off the hook. Well played 🙂
