Digg.com appears to have made a change that makes it more difficult (i.e. requires more “diggs”) for Apple related stories to make it to the front page of the social news site. Is this just for Apple related stories, or is it an across the board change in Digg’s algorithm? It’s possible that this change has come due to the overwhelming number of Apple stories that have recently made it to the front page of the site.
We should know…it seems like everytime we post ANYTHING it ends up at least getting submitted to Digg. Most of our stories that have been submitted have eventually found their way to the front page…some have been well recieved, others have been assaulted by anti-Apple users who are sick of seeing so many Apple stories on the front page of Digg. I can understand that. Digg is not an Apple only site, and A LOT of it’s front page content is Apple related.
Still…Digg does have a little feature where you don’t HAVE to see Apple stories if you don’t want to…so is a change like this really necessary…OR…am I crazy? I’ve watched our stories as they rise to the top of the upcoming page, and it never takes more than 30 Diggs for the stories to rise to the front page, but the top upcoming Apple story right now has 37 Diggs as of this writing…and it’s only been online for a little over 5 hours. Yesterday that would have been a front page story, but today it’s not.

Well, I should know since I submit a lot of the Apple stories that hit the digg frontpage (including yours & the one in that screenshot).
The strange thing is, I don’t know. It seems Digg has changed someting in its algorithm as a lot of stories with up to 80 diggs are not making the frontpage. Have a look at the upcoming page: https://digg.com/view/all/upcoming/most
I don’t know what the reason behind this is, but I’m guessing we’ll hear about it soon on the Digg Blog.
Today I too noticed that at upcoming/most stories with 40,50,60 diggs sitting there waiting to hit the front page. It’s a change of some sort and I’m glad you mention it cos I thought maybe I was mistaken. Previously stories would only need 20-30 diggs. It just not apple.
I hope we hear something soon. I would like to know how these changes will work.
