“Illuminating” hint in WWDC invite?

Table of Contents

wwdcinvite.gifI received a WWDC invite in my inbox yesterday (apparently even downloading Dashcode is enough to get one). You can see it by clicking on the image to the left. What is really interesting about it is the design of the invitation. It is obviously modeled after Time Machine, a new Leopard feature, but what it doesn’t show is interesting too…

Now, I may be looking too much into this (I sometimes do that) but there is no hint of the Aqua Interface on the invitation. The Time Machine interface shown on the official Apple Site shows the same layout as the card interface, but with the brushed metal look of the Finder in place of the slicker, smoother look of the calender in the invitaion.

What do you think?  Am I looking too much into it?  Or is this an illuminating hint?

  1. I got one few days ago and noticed the different look as well. I have a suspicion that one of the “top secret” new things is a new interface style. Maybe this is a hint to that.

  2. The window shown in the invitation isn’t exactly feature-full, but at least one element of it will almost certainly make it to the new UI (if there is one) – the glassy, rounded selection. It’s not much of a change, though. I’m still banking on a system-wide switch to Helvetica.

…and hoping that window bevel doesn’t happen to all windows. Yikes!

  3. Blimey! I think that’s loking a bit too deep. However if this is some sort of hint to a new interface design, it’s absolute cheese! Childish, unprofessional, low, low quality design. I think you need to look at apps like Aperture’s full screen mode for more of a hint of future UI design. But then again what do I know?

  4. Interesting. You may not have noticed, but the edge of the calendar window is very similar to the edge of the new Leopard X.
