I search for stuff on Windows boxes, even Vista. They can not compare. Vista will only search areas you have indexed somewhat at a fast pace, but still not as fast. I haven't determined what in OS X makes it faster. Is it the file system? I think I am going to put a bloated NTFS USB drive on my Mac and search it.
