Bungie Officially Splits from Microsoft – is Halo coming back to the Mac?

Table of Contents

You might remember in 1999, at Macworld…a video game was previewed…it looked pretty awesome…it was called: HALO. Have you heard of it?

Not too long after that, a company by the name of Microsoft decided to buy Bungie, who had originated as a Mac only developer. The original Halo still managed to appear on the Mac (and is STILL one of the most downloaded demos on the platform). Halo 2 and 3, however, were Windows and Xbox 360 only.

Butt that might be about to change. Bungie and Microsoft have officially split…while Microsoft is still heavily invested in the company, and the Halo property, Bungie is an independent company once again. That means that we can now see Bungie software for a variety of other platforms now – possibly even the PS3 and Wii. Bungie fully intends to return to the Mac platform, but there has been no word on if that will include the Halo property, or any of the Halo sequels.

  1. I saw reporting on this as far back as October 3, which puts the count to 3 business days, but we aren’t living in a Monday through Friday news cycle, so the news is actually 5 days old by my account. Even at 1 business day in age, tech news has a shelf life of about 12 hours, which makes this ‘yesterday’s’ news.

  2. I’d Like to see more games coming back to OS X .EA games has done that ,now Halo.Blizzard with World of Warcraft. In the Past years the Mac and Mac Os X is becoming an profesional platform for video audio editing.I think the Apple computer is a great platform for games with great hardware.I have to admit I use Boot camp with Windows Vista on my mbp just to play free cell from time to time 😕 🙂

  3. The only way game developers can take Apple seriously is if Apple starts shipping systems with competative gaming hardware. To start off with Apple needs to ship an iMac and MacBook Pros with a BTO option for NVidia 8700GTS. How about a tower that can accomodate video cards in a SLI setup with extreme processors.

Time to ship the hardware that will drive the games. For all the naysayers that don’t believe that this segement of the industry is not important at least from a minshare perspective, consider that this is a billion dollar segment bigger than the music download business.
