Are we ever going to go back to talking about the Mac?

As I look over the last few months worth of posts – I am astounded by the number of iPhone related articles. There’s good reason for that of course. The iPhone is all we’ve had that’s worth talking about.

The new iMac is great and all – but what does it look like? An iPhone.

With Leopard shipping this month (my money’s on Tuesday, October 30th, btw) I hope that the focus will go back to the Mac. I know I’m looking forward to having new Quick Tips to post, and exploring the new ins and outs of the OS…but I wonder if Apple isn’t making the slow and steady move away from the Mac.

I know, I know – Mac sales are better than they’ve ever been, and I’m sure you’re right. I’m sure the Mac isn’t going anywhere – but you have to admit – this year has been a little light on showcasing the Mac. Sure, they’ve been here – and sure – they’re great…but when was the last time the focus of Apple was on the Mac for more than a day or two?

It’s been a while.

I think, honestly, I’m just READY for something that’s NOT the iPhone to talk about. I love my iPhone – I think it’s the best cellphone ever (really, I do.), but I’m ready to talk about computer again. I’m ready for Leopard.

I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

  1. I’m hoping is a case of “saving the best for last” or “the best is yet to come” or whatever cliché you prefer… Hopefully they’ve been putting a lot of time and effort into developing new computer hardware that they’ll announce at Macworld. The Mac market share and stock prices are at an all time high, perhaps “we ain’t seen nothin’ yet”. (sorry had to throw in one more)

  2. Yes, no more iPods and iPhones!!!

I’m dying to buy a Mac Pro! Dying!!! I already have the money set aside. I just know as soon as I plop the cash down a new Mac Pro will come out. So I’m holding out until Leopard is released hoping that it will bring a Mac Pro refresh. Also, shipping with Leopard and iLife 08 will save me $200.

I can’t wait until Leopard is released. Just so all the sites can go back to talking about OS X and the Mac.

  3. I expect two more weeks of iPhone media madness. They will get as much milage out of the 72 hours that 1% of iPhone users had iBricks and make it sound like a war between “Apple The Oppressor” and the poor hacking community.

Then I expect a week of “Steve Jobs is Going to Jail” rhetoric, followed by “Leopard is going to be Late” stories.

As soon as Apple sends out invitations to the launch, we will be hearing stories of how “unstable” the betas are, and how upgrades are turning Macs into Bricks.

(“Brick” will be the rallying cry of the Mac Hater for years)

Then the launch will unveil new features of Leopard that include changes for owners of AppleTVs, iPhones, and possibly even Airport Extremes.

Expect every Mac quirk to be news all winter as competitors try to stop everyone from buying Apple products. The backlash has begun.
