Star Trek TV Shows GONE from iTunes

tos-logo.jpgThe Star Trek Television Shows (both the original Star Trek and the newly added Star Trek: Enterprise) have apparently been removed from the iTunes store.

There is no word, currently, as to why the programs have been removed from the store, or when (or if) they will be back.

Update from Star Trek.com:

“Due to technical reasons, Star Trek and Star Trek: Enterprise are temporarily unavailable from the iTunes Store. We will announce any developments as they happen.”

It is important to mention that not ALL Star Trek content has been removed. The entire movie library is available for download. It seems strange to me that these shows would be removed, but they are most definitely gone.

Are their any other programs that you’ve noticed vanishing from the store? If so, leave comments below…

  1. Could this be because they are being offered on Xbox Live Marketplace? I wonder if Microsoft scored some kind of exclusive deal…

  2. Captain: Scotty, we’ve got to get the ITMS drive back as soon as possible!
Scotty: Captian, I’m workin’ as fast as I can!

  3. I doubt it. It is curious that they’re claiming “technical difficulties” though.

I hope that when the “technical difficulties” are corrected, the prices remain the same…

  4. I’ve been trying to buy a Season Pass to both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis for 2 months now. Apple says they’re looking into the reason why I can’t buy the passes. I think the iTunes Store may be going through some growing pains. They offer way more than anyone else right now, so it looks like there’s a few badly encoded episodes slipping through the cracks. I had issues w/ improperly encoded BSG and Dresden Files episodes, but in all cases Apple let me download the fixed versions. I guess there’s enough issues w/ the Star Trek series, that it warranted pulling them. I hope they add more seasons of TOS and add both TNG & DS9. $48.99 per season is a steal compared to the $109 they charge for the DVD sets.

  5. I bought one of the Enterprise episodes before they were yanked, and I think that they were sourced from converted PAL DVD masters rather than the original NTSC broadcast masters. The audio is sped up 4%, a tell-tale sign. To the American viewer this manifests as the opening music sounding like Russell Watson’s been hitting the helium and Cmdr. Tucker’s left nut got removed.

For the record, PAL (stands for Phase Alternating Line, or more properly Picture’s Always Lousy) is the broadcast standard in most of Europe whereas NTSC (North American Television Standards Committee) is, as its name suggests, the US/Canadian/Mexican standard.

  6. That might explain it then Anonymous –

The TOS episodes were kinda screwy – some were the remastered shows, others were the original shows.

If Ent had that problem, and TOS was a mix of shows, maybe they decided to pull them both at the same time and fix them.

  7. The Star Trek series was on the XBox Marketplace back in December, well before they added it to iTunes. So this isn’t because of some new deal with Microsoft, since that deal was finished before the deal with Apple was closed.

  8. NTSC is also used in Japan… i believe.
    Post war reconstruction thingy.

*I also noticed ITS removed the Frank Zappa/ Mothers library of greatness. wtf?

  9. >>For the record, PAL (stands for Phase Alternating Line, or more properly Picture’s Always Lousy) is the broadcast standard in most of Europe

And right now, most of Europe that have had the misfortune to see NTSC are laughing AT you..!

Dude pal is far far far supior to NTSC that way only yanks use NTSC and we (as in the rest of the whole world) use pal just like your the only ones who use CDMA cos thats crap to, but you like your home grown inventions.

Thats up to you but just dont tell me there better than what the rest of the worlds says is better.

There is a reason no one in europe is rushing out to by HD tvs cos to use the diffrencen is minor and not worth the cash where as in the us NTSC to HD is huge and worth it.

Yes, us Americans do like our home grown inventions. Like the automobile, telephone, phonogragh, Penicillin. On and on…. Where woudl the world be wthout them……:)

  12. The episodes were abridged. A lot of us bitched and moaned about this on iTunes’ review system. I think Paramount succumbed to the heat, in this case.

  13. I think you’ll find that usa did not invent Penicillin or cars or the telephone… and you did not find the enigma machine either.
Typical that he thought they did though.
