iTunes “Remote Control” app for iPhone/iPod Touch coming soon

According to Macrumors Apple released a pre-release version of iTunes 7.7 to developers last night. The Read Me file from that release reveals that Apple will be releasing a previously unannounced iPhone/iPod Touch Application.

It reads:

“Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home — a free download from the App Store.”

Presumably, this application will work using Wi-fi to control the playback of iTunes.

Could a similar app for AppleTV be far behind? That’s pure speculation on my part, but I’d really like to see it.

What do you think?

  1. There are two programs I know that do exactly what you’re saying. One is Signal and the other is Remote Buddy. Both of them work by WiFi, and you can control your iTunes from anywhere in the world.
And the Remote Buddy doesn’t only work with iTunes but you can control several things of your Mac.
Thy them, they are really cool!
