The difference in quality between HBO shows and NBC shows is staggering. Sure, there are good shows on NBC, or enjoyable shows, but not on the same production level as HBO.

This is also a case where it's far cheaper to buy these shows on iTunes as opposed to a DVD. With a price hike to other shows it would be more economical to buy the dvd's. At say, $4.99 a show for a season is double the average price of a DVD box set.

Like others have said, its a case of value. HBO and Showtime command subscription prices, higher dvd prices, and now higher iTunes prices. I don't think other networks will be able to.

I can agree that $2.99 makes more sense coming from a pay channel, but I think we all know this is not going to stop with just HBO. The other networks will not stand for it, and prices of new and popular shows are about to go up.

Just wait. Your new fall seasons are going to come with a nice price hike.

Since you can watch NBC for free, I'd expect to pay a little more for a show from a premium cable channel. $2.99 is fair if you think about it that way. If HBO content was $1.99, I'd expect a show from a free station should be 99 cents. And we know that's not going to happen.

Glad to hear it! If they can get NBC back and more of CBS' shows available on iTunes I will be able to dump my DirecTV and finally build that Mac mini media center I've always been dreaming of . . .

I think $2.99 is fair for this type of programing... but $4.99 for an NBC show is not.
