I have seen more iPhones in the wild than Zunes and I live in a country that sells Zunes but not yet iPhones…

the new zunes aren’t so bad after all… the updated firmware (also available to the older zunes) is quite all right. what was so horrible about the 1st gen zune was mainly its looks (and maybe the crippled “social” functions). and the incredibly craptastic ad campaigns didn’t help much either, i guess.

for me, there is no alternative to an ipod mainly because i have all my music organized in itunes and want it to stay that way. there is simply no way to make other DAPs interact with itunes, and furthermore few players even come with software working on a mac. so us mac users are kinda stuck with ipods i guess. not that that’s a bad thing.

honestly never saw any…

I was interested in zune but when I visited the site it blocked me from even viewing it. Limited to US viewers… That’s an even stranger limit …

I have a friend who lives in London and was visiting the U.S. last year when the Zune came out. He bought one at the Dallas airport on his way back home. Upon his arrival home, he found it didn’t work. To make matters worse, it was so new it hadn’t even been introduced in England yet, so no one could service/exchange it.

Sensing it might be a sore topic, I’ve never asked how it got resolved.

Other than my friend, I know of no one who has a Zune.

I have seen them on display at Wal-Mart – but they aren’t functioning models, and I have never seen one in real life that worked anywhere.

At a recent Christmas concert, the emcee asked about two dozen kids up onto the stage and asked them what they wanted for Christmas. From about 4 year old to 15 year old kids (I’m guessing on the ages here) fully one half said they were hoping for an iPod. Nobody was asking for a Zune. Although one of the younger kids said she wanted a “Macbook Pro. The 17″ one.”

I have seen hundreds and hundreds of iPods in “the wild”, at work, and at the mall, etc, etc. To this day, I have never seen a Zune in the wild, nor have I spoken to someone that owns one. (And I’m the only Mac Addict in my family and circle of frineds, so it’s not like I hang out with a bunch of Apple heads either.)
