So is This iPod Nano Watch Thing Taking Off?

When Steve Jobs introduced the new iPod Nano, he mentioned that one of his coworkers was going to buy a wrist strap for it and make himself a new watch. With that simple suggestion, he started what seems to be a little cottage industry of Nano wrist straps. Pictured above is the Incipio Linq, but there are lots of others coming out as well.

So is this a good idea? On the one hand, it seems kinda neat to carry your iPod with you every day while it doubles as your watch, but isn’t it a little bit dorky? Who wants to listen to music when the headphone plug is connected to your hands? It seems to me that if you’re actually using the thing, you’d have to take it off of your wrist.

I dunno, maybe I’m just getting old. But this seems like one trend that I just can’t get behind.

  1. Who wouldn’t want a watch with a battery that lasts a few days max?
(But then on the other hand, maybe Apple could develop something akin to a watch “self-winding” mechanism to charge the thing.)

  2. I think it is a great idea. Pink wouldn’t be my first choice though. No one listens to their iPod all day long so this is a great place to store it for the 10-15 hours per day you are not listening to it. If it is on your wrist, you can’t accidentally leave it at work.

  3. Mark Sartor says:

I think eventually, Apple will include a tiny Camera, and a Microphone in this iPod nano, so that it can then be used for Facetime! it would then become amazingly HOT and sell like proverbial hotcakes!

It does give a person a reason to continually carry around their Nano if they use it as a watch. It would never replace my Casio G-Shock WaveCeptor but for those that don’t have a multifunction watch, the Nano seems like a useable watch. It’s an added feature to the mp3 player and FM radio, so it seems like a fair value.

  5. I think it’s a great idea…one of my coworkers said she was at the Nike store and they had them already for sale

it’s going to take off…the clock app on the Nano is a brilliant idea and since you can rotate the interface it’s even better

besides I see people wearing some insane color watches these days…what could be better than having your ipod handy 24/7

but they need to add bluetooth to the next one if they keep this form factor because bluetooth would make this unbelievable
