Video Find: iPhone 3G Guided Tour

Apple has posted a Guided Tour of the new iPhone 3G and iPhone 2.0 software update. The video is around 10 minutes long, and – like the other Guided Tours – does a great job of explaining the new software and hard ware.

This video, again, makes me pause and think about upgrading to an iPhone 3G, because the vast majority of what I’m looking forward to comes from the iPhone 2.0 software.

There is a compulsion to have the latest and greatest…but when it comes down to it, the $199 price tag, $18 upgrade fee, and $10 more a month for data all add up to me not being sure about upgrading at this point.

I can’t wait for the iPhone 2.0 software…but that’s free. What about you? Are you thinking about holding off on an upgrade or are you foaming at the mouth?

  1. As someone who lives in Europe I can say – I’d DEFINITELY UPGRADE (I’ll buy my first iPhone soon, but I’m sure I’d upgrade if I had the 1st gen device).

  2. It depends on how much you do. I know people doing around 1000$ per month, and they update their iPhones, so why wouldn’t you? 😉

  3. I’m also compelled to have the latest and greatest. The 3G and GPS are enough reason for me to get a new one as soon as it come out, but… we won’t have 3G in our market till the end of the year. So for that reason I’ll wait a while. The 2.0 software should be enough to hold me over. I hope that if I get software software loaded on my current 1st gen iPhone I’ll be able to move it to the 3G without any problems.

  4. It all depends on whether O2’s “pay as you go” tariff is good value. If it is, then I may be able to persuade my wife to take over my old iPhone and I can upgrade.

Otherwise, I will probably hold off upgrading for a few months. 3G and GPS is nice to have but not absolutely necessary for me at the moment.

  5. The $199 cost is well under my $500 “no thought” threshold. I’ll be upgrading and I’m considering upgrading to the 16Gb iPhone while I’m at it. I am disappointed that AT&T appears to be gouging us on the new 3G plans though. $10/month extra for 3G and an extra $5/month for texting – that’s an extra $15/month x a new 24 month commitment = an extra $360 in AT&T’s pocket. So is AT&T paying Apple $360 for the phone, or are we?

I haven’t until yet been a proponent of making the iPhone (LEGALLY) opened / unlocked – but I’m starting to think a little competition for AT&T might be a good thing . . .

  6. I’m also looking forward to 2.0 Software and concidering no upgrade to the 3G iPhone. 80% of my web/email needs are done within WiFi access points, and to be honest with you the few times I use Edge it’s acceptable for what I need at that given time. I’ll most likrly wait, take a look at the app store and determine if any or many apps are going to offer any benifits on a 3G device and make my call then. I still have time to decide…
