Apple today issued a press release stating that over 100,000 “developers” have downloaded the iPhone SDK in the first 4 days of its availability.

“Developer reaction to the iPhone SDK has been incredible with more than 100,000 downloads in the first four days,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Also, over one million people have watched the launch video on Apple.com, further demonstrating the incredible interest developers have in creating applications for the iPhone.”

It should be pointed out that any curious fellow that has the ability to register with Apple can download the software – so don’t expect 100,000 applications any time soon.

Still, it’s a very encouraging sign to see that many people taking a look at the SDK, and a good sign for the platform’s future.

  1. Even I downloaded it, and I have no idea what I’m doing.
Still fun to play around with it though.

  2. The interest from companies in developing native iPhone apps is staggering. I’m fielding several inquiries per day from companies who want real apps built today. To help developers and projects find each other I’ve created a community called iPhoneIncubator.com. Post your resume or project.
