Moto Exec gets shorts in a wad over iPhone questions

According to Infinite Loop Motorola European Marketing Director Simon Thompson has had enough of the iPhone talk. At the OPA Forum for the Future conference in London last week, in response to a question about what he thought of the iPhone, he responded with the following:

“We thought it looked very pretty and white. iPhone, iPhone, iPhone! I’m just bored of this darned question. Look, there will be a billion phones sold next year—on a good year, there will be 10 million iPhones.”

Now, on one hand I can totally understand this. It has to be maddening to have to talk about another company’s product every time you get out in public. He’s not there to talk about the iPhone….he’s there to talk about Motorola stuff.

On the other hand…that’s a bit snarky, isn’t it?

  1. Reminds me of Danika Patrick’s first appearance at Indy, when some of the drivers started to complain about her (much lower) weight, giving her a huge advantage over most of the other drivers. Of course, some quickly realized these drivers were just scared of a young female driver beating them on their own game… which she almost did, and in the process established herself as a professional driver.

Free advertising? You bet! But you got to be good at the game, otherwise the established ones will drive all over you.
