MobileMe launches on July 9, Apple confirms launch details

Apple is gearing up for the launch of the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 2.0 software later this week. Yesterday the company confirmed details about the launch of the updated .Mac platform, which will relaunch as MobileMe on July 9th, after a brief period of downtime starting at 6:00 pm PST.

Apple also confirmed that the iPhone will be available for sale in Apple and AT&T stores at 8:00 am on Friday, July 11th. They also revealed that business customers will NOT be able to get an iPhone at an actual Apple store. They will have to visit an AT&T store to purchase and iPhone and get service.

They will apparently not be restricting people to 1 phone per customer as they have done in the past either. The information states that “FamilyTalk plan buyers must purchase at least 2 iPhones, or have an existing iPhone to be used in the plan.”

That doesn’t actually make a whole lot of sense, since you could have any number of phones already. I mean, if I have a standard LG flip phone and I want an iPhone for a second line – there’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to do that. Hopefully that’s a miscommunication of some kind…or I’m just reading it wrong.

  1. I’m more excited about this and the 2.0 firmware than I am about 3G, granted that’s mostly because 3G isn’t available in my neck of the woods, but still very excited about MobileMe.

The very thought of not having to worry if I have a contact someplace beacuse I may or may not have physically synced yet makes me as happy as a chihuahua whose owner has been out all day and just got home.
