It’s OFFICIAL: Unlocked iPhones to be sold in France

Probably the biggest iPhone news your likely to hear anytime soon happened today, as Orange has announced that they will be selling Unlocked iPhones for an undisclosed price in addition to the €399 ($560) locked model.

An official announcement is expected in November, but I think it’s pretty safe to say that the unlocked French iPhone is going to be extremely expensive.

Why is Apple doing this in France but nowhere else? French Law. Laws in France prohibits phones from being sold solely under contract.

Analysts love to speculate about the agreement between Apple and Orange, which held up the announcement of the iPhone in France, with some saying that Apple is taking as much as 30% of the monthly revenue of the contracts…but that has yet to be confirmed.

Thank to Derek for sending this in.
