iPhone Update Now Available!

The new iPhone Update is now available. The download is 152 Mbs. I’ll update again as soon as it is complete, and we’ll take a look at the new features.

UPDATE: The installation process, thus far, is not going well. The iPhone wouldn’t update after the download because of an “unknown error” and had to be Restored before it would work. It is still restoring now.

And before you ask – no – I haven’t had it unlocked. My iPhone is locked down, and I am an AT&T customer – we’ll see what happens….

UPDATE AGAIN: It’s restored – an updated. iTunes Wi-Fi store won’t even open when connected to the Edge network.

You can find a video of all the upates at Apple’s official site.

New Features include:

Double Tap Home button short cut
Viewing Mail Attachements in Landscape Mode
Connecting your iPhone to your TV
Turning off Edge for International Travel
and more

  1. I kind of wish that the Wi-Fi would work over EDGE. I know that it would be pretty slow, but how often are you actually in a wifi hotspot when you want to download a song? Not complaining, I’m just saying that’s a hack I would like to see.

  2. I can confirm the restore-before-update thing happening as I just had that problem, and I also haven’t hacked the phone at all. I guess the only things I’ll lose are the notes and maybe the map bookmarks, which kinda sucks because I use those notes all of the time.

  3. Warning! The update requires a restore due to a 503 error.

It must be the error for folks that have NOT hacked their phone, because I have not even tried nor have I installed any apps. So, consider yourself warned! A full restore is required.

Backup your photos. It left the notes, map bookmarks, stock picks, world clocks and weather choices. But, it killed the photos! There is no warning that a restore and a reinstall of the ATT account is required.

This is the sloppiest work I have seen from Apple. It reminds me of Microsoft updates … not well thought out and screw the consumer. I guess I should be happy that Apple even allows me the right to use the device I purchased. After all they bricked those that played with their device.

  4. I am also a victim of the update errors, should I unplug my phone while I wait for less traffic or stay connected?
