Expect G3 iPhone hysteria between now and June 9th

It’s that time of year again, and you can see the rumor mongering engines igniting with all the passion and fervor that comes with a Steve Jobs keynote.

What’s interesting so far this year, is that there is no “crazy apple product” being rumored for WWDC 2008. No one has “leaked” images of an iWatch, an iTablet, or an iBurrito that will solve all your snacking needs between meals. There is no ridiculous product that obviously isn’t going to come out being pushed through the rumor mill.

Why?

Well, because everyone is so darn excited about what IS actually going to come out at WWDC 2008. The 3G iPhone is something that people (technology reporters in particular it seems) are extremely excited about. It seems to be the answer to prayers that people werent’ even praying much more than a year ago.

Now I’m not quite as excited as some, mainly because I’m not terribly unsatisfied with my iPhone right now. I don’t know that I’ll be jumping on the iPhone 2.0 bandwagon unless there are other features that are necessary to keep up to date with for the blog. If not, then I’ll be fine with what I have now.

Still, for those in 3G accessible areas, this is BIG news. So big, in fact, that it is completely over shadowing all other Apple related rumors. I can’t remember a previous keynote where people were so confident that something was coming out, and so excited about said product.

The current rumor is that the 3G iPhone will be available directly after the keynote for people to purchase. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s true. All the recent reports of iPhone’s being out of stock support the idea that we won’t have to wait for September for this device, but no matter what happens, people are going to be very, very excited on June 9th.

We’ll have live coverage of the hysteria here, as always.

  1. Well, there’s one “crazy product” that I’m still waiting for:

    The Mac

    Not the iMac or Mac Mini or Mac Pro or MacBook, but a Mac.

    An upgradeable tower with:

    One CPU slot, not Two;
    Two Hard Drives, not Four;
    Three PCI slots, not Six;
    Four RAM slots, not Eight.

    I suspect Apple has many cogent reasons for
    not making a mid-size tower like this, but it’s
    hard to believe that “Profits” or “Market Share”
    are among them.
