A Rundown of iOS 6’s Most Useful Features

As expected, Apple fans are excited about the new iOS 6 and the new features and improvements it will bring to compatible iOS devices. The new mobile OS promises to bring improvements to two key areas – accessibility and convenience. If iOS 6 does deliver what it promises, which no doubt it will, then it will present a more fulfilling experience when we use our iOS devices.

Here are some of the features that we think makes iOS 6 so noteworthy.

Facebook integration

It’s safe to say that more people use Facebook than they do Twitter, and Facebook integration has been a feature people have been asking for. With iOS 6, Facebook is finally baked into the system, much like Twitter is with iOS 5. You can now like apps, movies, music and TV shows right from iTunes, share your photos from Camera Roll or share a webpage in Safari. This is probably going to be the most used new feature in iOS 6.

Siri

When the iPhone 4S was released, Siri was the one feature everyone was talking about. Now majority of iOS device users can now experience Siri with the iOS 6. According to Apple, Siri is now more intuitive and “intelligent”. It can now provide more information and respond with more informative answers. Finally, you can now use Siri to open apps, a feature that many people clamored for when it first came out.

Maps

Apple unveiled its own Maps app, finally severing its ties with Google. The Maps app is feature packed. It has turn by turn navigation (although Android has this feature already). You also have the option to use different view modes. According to Apple, the Maps app will also provide traffic information from anonymous crowd sourced contributors. A new feature is a 3D rendering of that it calls Flyover.

Passbook

A new app that Apple is integrating into iOS is Passbook, which is the company’s own foray into the mobile payment business. The app acts like a digital wallet for movie tickets, boarding passes, discount coupons, etc. It fully integrates into iOS 6 and will even set off reminders for you. For example, if you are near a Starbucks location, your iOS device will remind you that should should use your Starbucks coupon.

These are just some of the features that the upcoming iOS 6 promises will make using your iOS device more fun. Intuitiveness is the name of the game here and Apple looks like it has delivered.

  1. Maps from Apple rather than Google with probably keep me from updating to the new iOS.

The other features are worth it and the Maps are a step backward, not forward.
