iPhone Apps I Love: Momento

Table of Contents

Christopher Nolan’s Memento is one of my favorite films, and it’s what came to mind when I first learned of Momento, a journal writing iPhone app that’s quickly become my virtual “diary” of choice.

See, I’ve been journaling since I was 5 years old- I have boxes full of almost every kind of diary, from fancy leatherbound ones to plain old composition notebooks, filled with the handwritten moments of my life. It’s a habit I don’t intend on breaking anytime soon, and while I still do keep a Moleskine in my handbag, I’ve never been one to shy away from technology- which is why I’ve embraced Momento so.

Momento not only lets you do regular journal-y things like recording your thoughts and daily activities, it also connects to social media services you use, such as Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and Last.fm. You can tag everything- people, places and events- and then search through everything, which is something I’ve always wished I could do with my handwritten journals.

Because a journal is a private thing, Momento has protection using a passcode (which is irretrievable, so don’t lose or forget it), as well as automatic backup to your computer (during sync in iTunes). Momento is currently $2.99 at the App Store »

Do you journal on your iPhone or iPod?

  1. My major concern with Momento is that there is no convenient method of exporting diary entries. When a new iPhone is released, how do I transfer all my old diary entries. The Momento developers persistently seem to refuse to answer questions about this problem.
