Apple Introduces Magic Trackpad

Last week, we pontificated about this hypothetical product from Apple that just received FCC approval. As it turns out, the theories were correct, and now we have a new input device for Mac users.

It’s called the Magic Trackpad, and it is, essentially, the same trackpad from a MacBook Pro, just made portable. It’s the same height as an Apple Wireless Keyboard, making it fit into the product line nicely, yet also making it bigger than the trackpad on the MBP. It does everything that a MacBook trackpad does, it just sits on the desktop. In case you haven’t already guessed, it’s a Bluetooth trackpad as well.

This is heralded as an “available accessory” for the iMac, but it doesn’t yet come with any Apple computer standard. Instead, if you’re interested in the new mouse substitute you can purchase it directly from Apple for $69. Me personally, I still think this is a great idea. I’m not sure if it will replace my new favorite mouse, but I think it might be able to make a go at it.
