Steam for the Mac Live Now

Got a Mac? Of course you do, that’s why you’re reading this site. I don’t know what I could’ve been thinking. My apologies. I’ll go ahead and show myself out.

Anyways, yesterday Steam for the Mac went live. You may wonder why I didn’t report about this yesterday when it was new and topical, but I’ve got an easy answer for that one: I was busy playing Portal.

Here’s how it works: You sign up for a free Steam account. Then click on the ginormous download button on the Portal page, and the DMG file starts downloading to the desktop. Install it like any other app, then fire it up and log in to your account. Pick a game and get to it. This week, and for the next few weeks, Portal is free for Mac users. I hadn’t played Portal before yesterday, even though I had heard on several occasions that it was one of the most fun games ever designed. After a few hours behind the keyboard, I can confirm that yes, it is a blast to play.

Steam isn’t all about Portal though, because they’re going to announce a new set of games every Wednesday for the next few weeks, all playable on the Mac. It looks like my productivity just got knocked down a tick.
