RUMOR: “Premium Games” section coming to the App Store?

Table of Contents

The latest Rumor spinning around the Apple section of the web is focused on the idea that Apple might create a “Premium Games Section” which would focus solely on Corporate Publisher games that cost $19.99.

The section, if it appears, would help to make sure that the Corporate produced games with large budgets take precedence over the independently produced games that currently dominate device sales.

A move like this wouldn’t really be surprising, but I have to wonder aloud for a moment – is it possible that Apple doesn’t even understand why the App Store has been successful?

Because a move like this would clearly seem to indicate that they do not.

  1. If they do this it will be to please the big game companies so that they keep making games for the main line of Macs. Also if they break it down into free, paid, premium then the consumer will still focus on the free and paid.

Apple will also be able to get a bit more from the big companies for this extra service if they are smart. And the small independent titles will be easier to find as the other apps wont be cluttering the section.(not a big difference but every little bit will help)

I personally will not look often in the premium section if it is only for apps that are $10 and up unless I already know about the program and have decided I need it. The Big Companies want to limit selection but a separate section will do is reduce the number of people who see their product. The only Big companies that this will truly help would be Business types. I.E. medical, office, accounting etc. as they have been lost in the flood of Games.

I am looking forward to iWork on the iPhone.
