Really? REALLY? – Don’t Buy a Tablet That Doesn’t Yet Exist Because It Will Suck

January 18, 2010 by Kevin Whipps 3 Comments

You know what that sexy graphic means – more Unicorn Tablet news, and this one’s a doozy.

So David Francois of ABC Action News in Tampa, FL, has a post up online on why you shouldn’t buy a Unicorn Tablet. His reasons? Short battery life, suboptimal comfort factor, Tablets aren’t new or popular, you won’t need one, and they’ll be expensive. Here’s some highlights:

Tablets will almost certainly have to be plugged in. A lot.

I’ll bet the image of wires hanging off of your iTablet isn’t all that appealing.

And this one.

It won’t be cheap, and if the rumors are true, it will also have a 3g data connection that you’ll have to pay for. One more hefty recurring monthly bill will be too much for most people to swallow.

First, let’s establish that it’s not named the iTablet, iSlate, or iAte a Lego, it’s proper name is The Unicorn Tablet – TUT if you want an acronym. Secondly, like the magical unicorn, the TUT has not yet been confirmed as existing. Having an argument about why not to buy a hypothetical device is like asking if unicorn kisses taste like strawberries or hay. Does it matter? Until it exists, this is a moot point. Wait until it hits the streets, then talk about how much it sucks while all your friends use one on the subway.

Fact is, no one needs a Unicorn Tablet. But then again, no one needs an iPod or iPhone either, and those devices are so popular now, that no one ever talks about other MP3 players. Besides that, Apple has a way of making people want things that they don’t need by making them easy to use and easy to digest. If they hit the mark with The Unicorn Tablet, then it’s going to take off.

That’s if it exists.

    To dfrancois
    I don’t know if I’ll need/want a tablet.
But then none of us know
You sure seem pretty certain without seeing it first hand
    after you see it
then write about it (if you are right , then all you need do is reprint your article)
who are you trying to influence anyway
    you either have no imagination
or are in some way negative about the manufacturer

I suspect the latter but I don’t know you well enough to comment on your imagination
