Apple has announced the very first Insomnia Film Festival for all student filmmakers 18 years and older. The concept is pretty simple (and very reminiscent of Scott McCloud’s 24 Comic Book Challenge)…you have 24 hours to write/shoot/edit a film of 3 minutes or less. You have to use a Mac to do the editiing and submit the film in Quicktime. Filmmakers must use three elements that will be revealed on November 10 at 5 p.m…from that point on you’ll have 24 hours to make your masterpiece.
All entries will be posted on the Apple website and voted on by viewers. The top 25 will be judged by a panel of experts and two awards will be given – The Audience’s Choice and the Judge’s Choice. Winning team members will each receive a copy of Final Cut Studio, a copy of Shake, and an 80GB video iPod for their portable portfolio.

It’s a pretty cool contest from Apple (although I’m sure students under 18, and non students OVER 18 will be bummed that they can’t participate).
