Top Car Buying Apps for Your iPhone

Car buying apps for your iPhone

Everybody hates going to a dealership to look for a new car. Not only do you have to deal with the slick car salespeople, but the car you want might not even be on the lot, meaning you wasted hours of your Saturday looking at and test driving cars you don’t love. The internet has made it easier to shop for cars online, but as many of us are depending on our iPhones for most (if not all) of our home computing needs, using a dealership’s not-so-mobile-friendly website makes the process a headache. Since the Apple Car isn’t materialized yet, we still need a little help choosing another model. Here are the top car buying apps for your iPhone.

Cars.com

The Cars.com app offers a relatively clean, though not exciting, user interface, consisting of a menu of options from help finding a car to help selling your old one. While this app isn’t the most beautiful experience available, it’s really functional. You can research car models, bookmark your favorites, get estimates on car repairs and more. The app even features a monthly payment calculator, a simple tool that helps you decide what car you can afford through an array of financing options.

One of the problems with Cars.com is that it feels a little like a mobile browser at times rather than an app. It isn’t nearly as polished as some of the others on the list, but the app is a solid choice for finding cars in your area.

TrueCar

TrueCar is a beautifully designed app. Once you start using the app, your home screen will become the hub for your notifications and updates on your new car. You can look for a new car as well as a used car with this app; all you have to do is choose a brand and category. TrueCar will show you a series of cars available in your area and how different car models stack up against one another. With just a glance, you’ll see seating capacity, fuel economies and horsepower.

This app doesn’t give you all of the functionality that some of the other apps on our list give, but it does do a great job of helping you find your next car.

CarMax

CarMax has some of the same features that the other apps on our list have, features like finding a car by its make and model, but CarMax adds another: finding a car by price. If you are concerned about the price of your car, CarMax might be just the app for you. Through searching by price, your budget doesn’t take a backseat to the specific car models available.

This is a slick app, but to get the most out of it, you need a CarMax account. If you’re not interested in creating a username and password for another app, you might want to take a pass on CarMax, but if you have the time and interest, the app only becomes more powerful.

CARFAX

You probably already know that CARFAX has a great Fox mascot, but he doesn’t look so great on an icon. Where the other icons on our list look pretty good, this one sticks out like a sore thumb. In terms of functionality, the CARFAX app is a great way to find used cars for sale. This app is specifically designed for finding and buying used cars.

If you’re looking for a new car, look elsewhere, but if you’re looking for a great used car with a well-documented history and service history report, CARFAX is the right app for you.

Take a look at the apps on our list and find out which one works best for you. No matter which one you choose, it almost has to give you a better experience than actually going to a dealership and trying to settle on a car you don’t really love. This is the future of car buying, and it can be done right from your iPhone!

  1. Great list Justin! I’d suggest adding Autolist mobile app (https://www.autolist.com), they currently have the highest rated used car app for both Android and iOS. Plus, their meta search approach allows for the largeset available database of listings online. Definitely a worthwhile add! Thanks again for your work
