YouTube coming to AppleTV + 160gb model for $399

logo_youtube.gifIn what is the first of many additions to the AppleTV offering (that’s an assumption on my part, folks) Apple today announced a partnership with YouTube.

I could reword the press release…but why? Here it is…

Apple® today announced that it’s bringing the Internet’s most popular originally-created content from YouTube to the living room with Apple TV™. Beginning in mid-June, Apple TV will wirelessly stream videos directly from YouTube and play them on a user’s widescreen TV. Using Apple TV’s elegant interface and simple Apple Remote, viewers can easily browse, find and watch free videos from YouTube in the comfort of their living room.

“This is the first time users can easily browse, find and watch YouTube videos right from their living room couch, and it’s really, really fun,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “YouTube is a worldwide sensation, and Apple TV is bringing it directly from the Internet onto the widescreen TV in your living room.”

Thousands of the most current and popular YouTube videos will be available on Apple TV at launch in mid-June, with YouTube adding thousands more each week until the full YouTube catalog is available this fall. With Apple TV’s stunning interface and simple Apple Remote, users can easily navigate through YouTube’s familiar video browsing categories or search for specific videos. YouTube members can also log-in to their YouTube accounts on Apple TV to view and save their favorite videos.

This is a great addition to the AppleTV, and I hope we see many more things like this in the future. The AppleTV is a nice product…it still needs work, but additions like this are a step in the right direction.

The press release goes on to mention the following:

Apple TV with a 160GB hard drive will be available tomorrow for a suggested retail price of $399 (US).

Neat, huh?

  1. I bought my first Mac computer a few months ago for two grand. What a nice system. I would be interested to see the quality Apple puts into there TV.

    Arizona Auto Insurance

  2. It wud be nice if they offered people an upgrade cost who bought the original one. I can see you as well as other regretting it, as more HD space is quite nice.

  3. Yeah, that’s true…it is a bit disappointing…BUT, that 160 gig hard drive says one thing and one thing only to me…

    iTunes HD.

If I have to, I’ll go read a how to and crack that sucker open and put 500 gigs in it (if I can)…but right now, I have no complaints about the 40 gigs

  4. I don’t think they make 500GB notebook drives 😀 but yea, I would put in a bigger drive myself anyways. I do agree how the larger harddrive could mean HD content.
