Vudu to take on AppleTV

I just posted about this little device on Forever Geek, but I think it’s worth mentioning here too.

Vudu is coming this summer, and it could be a major contender for AppleTV. It is being developed by former Apple employee (and founder of WAP – so that him for being able to browse the web on your phone) Alain Rossman and company. The device will launch with thousands of movies available. We don’t know too many details just yet, but I am assuming it will be some kind of subscription based model.

This could be a massive blow to the AppleTV, and even services like Netflix, if it is successful. It’s hard to say at this point if it will be a hit or not, but right now, things are looking good for the Vudu box. We’ll be keeping a close eye on it.

Right now, Gizmodo has the first details.
