30 Days of AppleTV – Day 6

So I’ve been on an Office kick (especially after seeing Blades of Glory yesterday) so I decided to download the second season of The Office last night. I’ve been meaning to buy the DVDs forever, but decided to go the iTunes route instead since season one looked so good, and it saves the trouble of having to encode the DVDs if I want to watch them on my Macbook Pro or iPod…plus…it’s about $10 cheaper than the DVDS.

I did have a problem with it, though. I only watched “The Dundies” episode last night, but it was in 4×3 not 16×9. I was surprised by this because the first season was in widescreen. I can’t figure out why the second season wouldn’t be, except that maybe they started uploading the season two episodes before they put season one on the site. I don’t know…but I do know it’s annoying. Now, with a show like The Office, you don’t really need to have widescreen for story purposes, but the inconsistency in the downloads is something I find annoying. The video still looks fantastic, and I’m very pleased with that…and I hope that not every episode of season two is this way…but this inconsistency is something they need to work out. Half the episodes being in widescreen and the other half being full screen annoys the hell out of people with widescreen tvs…and that’s the only people Apple is marketing the AppleTV to…so they need to get this fixed.

  1. Damnation, we’ve been toying with the idea od watching that film, I can’t stand ‘awkward humour’ and hate the office (I know, makes me a freak) *sigh* guess this means I’ll just have to wait for something better to come along.

  2. I know exactly what you mean with the annoying switch from 16:9 to 4:3. I’m a huge Ghost Hunters fan, and I think I remember there being an issue with those as well…Can’t wait until 4:3 goes the way of Betamax. Good riddance…
