Re: heat vents, the bottom has a vent going around the base, but most of the heat is radiated through the top surface. The fact that it gets hot actually means that it's radiating heat way from the sensitive electronics that could be harmed by the heat.

My AppleTV has been on constantly and it gets about as hot as my PowerBook - too hot to press against my crotch, but not hot enough to bother me... especially since it's sitting on a shelf and I have no need to touch it.

There are apparently video podcasts in the works specifically for AppleTV. Can't wait. I watch about an hour of AppleTV every night and a few minutes here and there during the day. This is all iTunes content (and a few videos converted with QT/VisualHub). I'm actually not able to catch up to all my video podcasts, so I can afford to be selective about which ones I watch.

Is there even a vent for the heat to escape? I don't remember seeing one when I looked at the Apple TV. In addition the harddrive is mounted on the top of the device so when you touch it, its as if your touching the harddrive. I agree its stupid but MacBook's get disturbingly hot aswell. However my iMac doesn't ever get really hot, lucky me :)

John Carter of Mars! I read those 50 years ago in the classic comics. Later when I started tripping on life, I reread the novels, along with Stranger in a Strange Land, and Carlos Castenada books.
