30 Days of AppleTV – Day 3

Last night I didn’t get home until very late, so I didn’t spend a lot of time watching Television, but I was very pleased when I got home to find that my large format version of the new DL.TV, Diggnation, and the new Revision 3 show “The Totally Rad Show” were all waiting for me.

This is what I got an AppleTV for.

I love being able to watch these shows on my television…and I love that they look good. With as many podcasts as I watch, I probably wouldn’t even need to subscribe to any major network shows, and I’d still have more content than I knew what to do with.

To me, this is the promise of AppleTV and all the devices like it. This literally makes it possible for two guys on a couch to produce their own television show…now, I know some people feel that’s a bad thing, because of all the crap that people will produce that is in no way compelling or professional…and I agree…there will be a lot of crap…but you know what? There was a lot of crap on my cable too….

With the right filtering and showcasing systems online, we’ll be able to easily find the good stuff…if you seek out the good stuff in video podcasting, you’ll have so much stuff to watch on your AppleTV you’ll never get to it all.

Of everything I’ve watched on the AppleTV so far, the podcasts are the area I’m the most satisfied with, and if you have been looking for a way to watch these on your TV with no hassle, and you want to get in on the ground floor of this device, I say go buy one. Still, if podcasting isn’t your thing, it may be a little early.

  1. I agree with you – video podcasts are the thing I’ve been watching on AppleTV the most also. Not all video podcasts are amateurish attempts at “viral comedy” either. Here are some professionally done, not-necessarily-comic ones:

Art History In Just A Minute
    Attack of The Show
    Discovery News (Video)
    HBO Documentary Films
    National Geographic Video Shorts
    Photoshop Killer Tips
    Rick Steves’ Europe Video
    Vintage ToonCast
    What Not To Wear
    Wild Chronicles

    Post yours!

I couldn’t agree with you more Michael.

I can buy an Apple TV only to watch video podcasts, I love these stuff. They are the future of television. Of course besides episodes of desperate housewives, Lost and Grey’s Anatomy and a little cool Canadian show called “Little mosque on the prairie” which I as a muslim find hillarious and extremely funny.

Keep up the good work Michael. I totally admire what you are doing here. Again, this is a genuine, unique and entertaining experience besides being a great piece of journalism.
